What is 'Cloud'?

Despite the name, 'cloud' technologies are not new or complex.  In simple terms, it describes the provision of IT-related services remotely, via an internet connection - where you buy a licence to use the technology rather than buy it outright and host it on your own servers.

Cloud solutions can therefore offer great flexibility - useful in a fast-changing marketplace.  But you do need to exercise caution before deciding to go down the cloud route, and particularly when it comes to selecting a provider.
